RISO 40 is the shade on its own — a white spherical paper cover 40 cm across and 40 cm tall, with the horizontal ribs of its frame showing through. A metal skeleton holds the shape, and the cord with its lampholder passes through the opening at the top. What is in the box and what you have to buy as well The box contains the shade and nothing else. Nordlux states plainly that the suspension bracket, the cable and the canopy are not included, and there is no bulb either. To hang RISO 40 you need a separately bought pendant set with a lampholder and a ceiling canopy, plus a light source — two further purchases to add to the price of the shade. The sales box measures 42 × 42 × 1 cm. Against a 40 cm diameter that means the shade travels folded flat and only opens out on its frame during assembly. Assembled it weighs 0.1 kg, so what the ceiling really carries is the cord and the lampholder. Which bulb it takes and what light it gives The maximum bulb wattage is 15 W. That is a heat limit for a paper cover rather than a brightness ceiling: a modern 15 W LED puts out far more light than a 15 W filament lamp, so the cap is less restrictive than it sounds. The colour is your choice — 2700 K gives warm, yellowish light, 4000 K a neutral white. Paper diffuses light across the whole sphere, so the fitting glows softly in every direction instead of throwing a beam downwards. The shade has no electronics of its own, so dimming depends on a dimmable bulb and a dimmer in the circuit. Where it works and what it is made of The paper is FSC approved and the only other material is the metal frame. Nordlux intends the shade for indoor use only: paper does not tolerate damp, which rules out a bathroom or a terrace.
