The MARBELLA 1488 is a three-light ceiling chandelier on a rigid stem: three straight arms run out from a central sleeve, each carrying a matt opal glass shade shaped like an inverted dome. The arms, the ceiling cup and the rings at the lower edge of each shade are finished in polished brass over steel. How much room it takes under the ceiling The arms sweep a circle 550 mm across — compare that with the width of the table it will hang over; above a top 80–90 cm wide the proportions hold. The overall height of 620 mm puts the lower edge of the shades roughly 62 cm below the ceiling, on a rigid stem that cannot be shortened at installation — so plan the mounting height in advance. Which bulbs will fit It has three E27 sockets and no bulbs are included, so you buy three separately. The manufacturer allows LED lamps up to 15 W per socket, and the instruction sheet adds the maximum envelope: 50 mm in diameter and 105 mm long. A standard A60 bulb is 60 mm across and will not go under this shade; golf-ball G45 lamps, smaller A50 bulbs and slim candle lamps do. Colour and brightness are yours to choose with the bulbs: 2700–3000 K gives warm, slightly yellow light, and a lamp of about 800 lm matches the old 60 W incandescent. The matt opal glass diffuses the light and takes the glare off the filament, while the open bottom of each shade sends most of the output downwards. Mounting and supply The chandelier is fixed permanently to the ceiling and runs on 230 V; one screw and wall plug are supplied. Net weight is 2.5 kg, so an ordinary fixing holds it in a concrete slab; in a plasterboard ceiling the fixing has to reach the supporting frame. Protection class I means the ceiling box must carry an earth conductor. The manufacturer permits a conversion to 1+2 switching, splitting the three lights across two separately switched circuits; that calls for a two-gang switch and a second conductor run to the box. Finish and the rest of the MARBELLA series Polished brass against milky glass reads as glamour, while the arrangement of three shades on splayed arms stays classic. The manufacturer intends it for above a dining table, and for kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, hotels and restaurants.
