Brand: Elstead Lighting

Clarke is a single-light wall fitting by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A steel arm bent into a J shape rises from a round wall plate and carries a tapered off-white linen shade, framed at top and bottom by brass rims joined with slim rods. The metal has a Darkened Brass finish, and a pull chain for the switch hangs below the shade. Size and mounting The wall light is 40 cm high, the shade 18.4 cm wide, and the fitting projects 22.2 cm from the wall — the figure that decides whether it fits beside a mirror, a wardrobe or in a narrow passage. It weighs 1.05 kg and fixes to the wall through a round plate that covers the junction box. The pull-chain switch lets you turn the lamp on and off at the fitting itself by pulling the chain under the shade. Bulb and light The E27 holder takes a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour temperature and brightness; 40 W is the limit for the holder, not what the wall light draws. The linen shade diffuses the light and keeps the bulb out of direct view. The fitting works with dimmable lamps — to adjust brightness you need a bulb marked as dimmable and a dimmer. It is intended for interiors and is a Class I fitting, so the cable in the wall box must include an earth conductor; it runs on 220–240 V. Style and variants The maker describes Clarke as a blend of classic elements with a simple contemporary line: the fabric shade and brass rims recall traditional lamps, while the plain, unornamented arm keeps the whole lighter. Its listed uses include dining rooms. The Clarke wall light also comes in two other combinations: warm brass with a black metal shade, and polished nickel with a white metal shade.Show more
