The Maytoni Basic Form MOD321PL-01B is a pendant lamp with a white opal glass globe 15 cm across, carried on a black metal stem. The rigid part of the fitting — stem and globe together — measures 30 cm; above it there is only the cable and a flat ceiling rose 10 cm across and 2.5 cm deep. How high to hang it The drop adjusts between 35 and 212.5 cm, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the globe. The short end of that range suits a low ceiling or a row of several pieces; the long end lets the fitting come down close to a worktop in a room with a high ceiling. Over a dining table the globe is usually set so its underside sits 70–80 cm above the top. The whole fitting weighs 0.68 kg, so an ordinary ceiling hook or plug will carry it; in a plasterboard ceiling the fixing has to reach the supporting frame. The rose is 10 cm across and covers a standard installation box. What kind of light it gives Inside the globe is a single E14 holder for a lamp of up to 40 W. Opal glass scatters the light evenly in every direction, so the fitting reads as a bright point in the room rather than throwing a beam downwards — this is mood and secondary lighting, not task lighting. The globe goes onto the stem after the fitting is installed and the lamp screwed in, so changing the lamp does not mean taking the whole luminaire down. The manufacturer lists it as non-dimmable, and the colour of the light is chosen with the lamp. It is meant for dry interiors and is safety class I, so the installation needs an earth conductor. Which room it suits Maytoni describes the Basic Form series as minimalist: a clean geometric sphere on a slim stem, with no ornament and no visible joints. Black metal against a white opal globe sits well with pale walls and wood while standing out from them by contrast. The manufacturer intends it for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms, over a kitchen island, and for hotel and restaurant interiors.
