BORGEN is a wall light shaped as a flat round disc 30 cm across, made of steel and finished in matt beige. The light source sits behind the disc, so the fitting does not shine forward — the glow appears on the wall all around it. The disc stands 3.5 cm off the wall and carries no visible bracket or cable. How large the fitting is and how much room it takes Thirty centimetres across is more than a typical wall light, so a single piece fills a stretch of wall on its own. Set that figure against the width of the surface the lamp is going on — above a bed, beside a mirror, or between a door and the room's corner. At 3.5 cm deep the fitting sits almost flush. All of the light leaves from behind the disc and bounces off the wall, so it returns into the room diffused — look straight at the fitting and no glowing element is visible. Colour rendering is Ra 80, the figure taken as normal for general lighting; where shades have to match exactly, at a make-up mirror for instance, sources of Ra 90 and above are used. The module is permanently built in. The fitting lights up as soon as it is wired, with no bulb to buy, but the source cannot be replaced — once spent, the whole fitting goes. Wiring and the rooms it is meant for The fitting runs on 230 V and is protection class I, so the box it connects to needs an earth conductor. The manufacturer intends it for the living room, bedroom, kitchen, dining room and hallway — anywhere the light should be soft and come off the wall rather than from a single point.
