RIO 55 is a pendant shaped as a 55 cm ring, hung vertically on two transparent cables. The hoop is aluminium painted olive green, and the light comes out of a white band along the inner edge of the circle. The LED module is built in permanently and supplied with the fitting. Colour rendering is Ra 98 against the 80 that is usual on the market. At that figure food, timber and textiles appear under this light very nearly as they do in daylight, which matters over a dining table, over a kitchen island and anywhere colours have to be right. Light runs around the whole circumference of the ring towards its centre, so the fitting does not throw a single cone downwards but spreads widely. The source cannot be replaced - once the module is spent the whole fitting is replaced. Installation and rooms The fitting is safety class I, so an earth conductor has to be present in the ceiling box; on an older two-wire installation that is worth checking before purchase. It runs from 230 V mains and is intended for indoor use only. The plain hoop without ornament suits modern interiors, and olive green is a pronounced colour - it is chosen against a plain wall rather than a patterned one.
