ORION 8125 is a wall light built from a round 18 cm wall plate and a cone-shaped 40 cm disc set at an angle to the wall. Everything is finished in black, and the ring of diodes sits hidden behind a smaller disc in the centre. The ORION series was designed by Hugo Tejada. How much wall it takes up The disc measures 40 cm across — compare that with the clear wall area you have for it. The fitting stands 12,3 cm off the wall, so in a hallway where you want to keep 80 cm of free passage, subtract that from the corridor width. What screws to the surface is the round 18 cm plate, and it covers the installation box. The fitting weighs 1,6 kg. On the packaging the manufacturer lists both wall and ceiling mounting. The light it gives The diodes face the cone rather than the room — standing beside the fitting you do not see the source itself, only the lit reflector surface. 1400 lm leaves the luminaire, close to twice what an old 60 W bulb gave, spread across the whole disc instead of concentrated in one point. 3000 K is warm white with a slightly yellow cast, close to a traditional incandescent bulb. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is enough in a living room or bedroom; at a mirror or over a worktop, where shades have to match, Ra 90 and above serves better. The light cannot be dimmed and no dimmer is supplied. Light source and power The 20 W LED module is built in permanently and the manufacturer lists it as non-replaceable — the quoted 30 000 operating hours and 30 000 switching cycles are therefore the life of the whole fitting. No bulb has to be bought separately. The driver sits inside the body, so the fitting connects straight to a 220–240 V 50/60 Hz supply with no separate transformer. It is a protection class I luminaire, which means an earth conductor has to be present at the connection point. IP20 restricts it to dry rooms — it is not intended for a shower zone or for outdoors. Build and series The body combines aluminium, steel and acrylic, and the same black runs across plate, arm and disc.
