BIRK Single is an outdoor wall light from Nordlux: a black aluminium cylinder 9 cm across, carried on a short arm and a round wall plate. It shines downwards only, and a clear fluted glass ring wraps the lower part of the cylinder, letting some light out sideways as well. No bulb is included. Size and mounting The fitting is 17.2 cm tall and projects 15.5 cm from the wall. Compare that figure with the width of the passage along the wall if the light is going next to a narrow terrace or beside a garage door. It weighs 0.56 kg. Safety class I means the supply circuit has to carry an earth conductor. Nordlux states that the fitting has built-in through terminals: several of them can be fed by one cable run from fitting to fitting instead of pulling a separate line to each. What light it gives and what to buy with it Inside there is a single GU10 socket for a bulb of up to 28 W. The bulb is chosen by you, and it decides the colour and the brightness of the light. The fitting can be dimmed, but that needs a bulb described as dimmable and a dimmer in the installation. The beam drops vertically and draws a bright pool on the wall below the fitting, while the glass ring lights up the body itself. This is directional light, not illumination for a whole yard. Where it can go IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, rain included, so the fitting can hang on an exposed wall. The manufacturer intends it for lighting driveways, garages and house entrances. It is not approved for seaside locations, where the air carries salt.
