Bibury is the table lamp base on its own — a turned wooden spindle painted in satin Cotswold green and set on a round foot. A brass lamp holder with a switch sits at the top of the spindle, and a grey braided fabric cable with a plug runs out of the foot. What is in the box and what has to be bought separately The box holds the base with its holder and a cable ready to plug in. There is no shade — the manufacturer intends this base for shades of 16 or 20 cm in diameter, so the shade is chosen separately. The narrower one keeps the slim outline of the spindle, the wider one gives the lamp a stockier shape. No bulb is included either, and the holder is a B22 bayonet cap, not an E27 screw — the lamp has to be bought with that exact cap. The manufacturer rates it at a maximum of 7 W in the LED version. The switch sits on the holder itself, so the lamp is switched at the top rather than on the cable. How big it is and where it will stand The base is 27.2 cm high and the foot measures 10.5 cm across; with a 16 cm shade the lamp grows by the height of that shade — a figure worth comparing with the height of the bedside table or console it is meant to stand on. The cable is 150 cm long and sets the greatest distance from the socket. How it is made The spindle is turned from sustainably sourced wood and painted a matt, satin green; in the close-up shots the grain shows through under the paint. The holder and its ring are metal in a brass finish and are the only shiny element of the whole shape.
