ORIS is a square ceiling light 36 cm on a side, closed by a matt white glass shade with softly rounded corners. A single nut in the middle of the underside holds the shade, and the manufacturer supplies washers and a nut in two finishes — black and chrome — so you choose the visible detail after unpacking. Size and mounting The fitting occupies a 36 × 36 cm square of ceiling and projects 13 cm from it. At that ratio it sits flat and stays out of the way — it fits a hallway with a low ceiling, where a pendant would be in the way when walking through. It mounts on a ceiling hook and the conductors join at terminals. The fitting is protection class II, that is double insulated, and needs no earth conductor — a solution for older installations without earthing. It weighs 1.05 kg. Which bulbs to buy ORIS has two E27 sockets and takes bulbs of up to 11 W each in LED form. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself: as a guide, about 800 lm matches a former 60 W incandescent bulb, and two such sources light a hallway or a bedroom. It can only be dimmed if the bulbs themselves are dimmable — the fitting has no dimmer of its own and will not turn an ordinary LED bulb into an adjustable one. The supply is 230 V from the household circuit. Shade and finish The glass is frosted over its whole surface, so it spreads the light and does not glare. It is not opaque, though: with the bulbs on, two brighter patches show through it. Bulbs with a frosted envelope even that out better than clear ones with a visible filament. Besides glass, polypropylene is used in the build. The white of the shade is uniform, without pattern and without gloss, so the fitting does not stand out against a pale ceiling. Where it works The manufacturer intends ORIS for a hallway and a bedroom — rooms where even light from a single point and a shallow fitting matter.
