Cordillera is an outdoor wall lantern by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A cylinder of glass sits inside an open rectangular frame of aluminium finished in burnished bronze. The glass is clear and seeded with air bubbles, so the lamp stays visible and the light breaks up unevenly across the surface. Size and mounting The fitting is 50.8 cm tall, 19.1 cm wide and projects 18 cm from the wall — that last figure is the one to compare with the distance to your door frame or the width of an entrance recess. It weighs 2.9 kg and fixes to a flat surface through a plain wall plate. On the corner of a building that flat plate has nothing to sit against, so the manufacturer offers separate corner brackets coded C-BKT2-BROWN and C-BKT2-BLACK. They are not in the box, so corner mounting means buying one as well. Which lamp you need to buy Inside there is a single E27 socket rated to a maximum of 60 W, and no lamp is supplied. Brightness and colour are yours to choose: a lamp of roughly 800 lm gives about as much light as the old 60 W incandescent, and 2700–3000 K produces warm, slightly yellow light. The fitting works with dimmable lamps, but dimming needs both such a lamp and a dimmer in the circuit. Nothing here is built in permanently — over the years only the lamp is replaced. Where it can be mounted The manufacturer intends Cordillera for outdoor use and rates it IP44, meaning protection against splashing water from any direction. The lantern will take rain on an exposed facade, and it runs on a 220–240 V mains supply. The fitting is Class I, so the connection needs an earthed supply.
