STEINEL L 10 S, article 084769, is a black outdoor wall light shaped as a classic lantern, with a motion sensor built in below the lantern body. The housing is UV-resistant plastic, and a reflector film sits under the roof to push light downwards instead of letting it escape into the sky. What the sensor actually covers The infrared sensor has a 180° detection angle, and its reach depends on how someone moves relative to the fitting. Walking across the field, motion is picked up from 7.5 m and 88 m² is covered; walking straight at the fitting, only from 3 m and 14 m². That difference decides the mounting: a lantern set side-on to a path reacts more than twice as early as one aimed head-on at the gate. The manufacturer gives 2.5 m as the optimal mounting height and allows 3 m at most — above that the detection field spreads past the useful area. Masking clips are supplied; they blank out zones where the sensor should not trigger, such as a neighbour's path or the street. Setting it up and which bulb to buy The on-time after detection is adjustable from 5 seconds to 60 minutes, and the twilight threshold from 2 to 2000 lx, that is from near-total darkness to bright dusk. Both are set with potentiometers on the fitting — there is no remote and no app here, and neither can be added later. The lampholder is an ordinary E27 with a 15 W limit. No bulb is included, so the light colour is yours to choose; the clear panels leave the bulb fully visible, so its shape becomes part of how the lantern looks. Build, mounting and durability The fitting projects 22.4 cm from the wall, is 17.5 cm wide and 25.5 cm tall, and weighs 0.785 kg, so ordinary wall plugs hold it — mounting hardware is supplied and the packaging is plastic-free. It is surface-mounted, on a wall. IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, and IK03 against light impact.
