Velo is a table lamp of smoked, mouth-blown glass on a flat black metal base. The shade has vertically cut walls and stays open at the top, so light also leaves upwards. The glass is transparent and the bulb stays visible through it. How big it is and which version this is This is the 25 cm diameter version, 30 cm high — a body only a few centimetres taller than it is wide, for a bedside table, a console or a sideboard. The three sizes in the series are not scaled copies of one another: Ø 18 cm stands 36 cm high and reads as slender, Ø 20 cm is 23 cm and squat, and this Ø 25 cm sits between them. The cable is 175 cm long — a figure worth comparing with the distance from where the lamp will stand to the nearest socket. It is black and textile-braided. The bulb it takes and how it switches on The lamp takes one E27 bulb of up to 40 W at 230 V. No bulb is supplied. Because the glass is clear, the bulb is part of what you see — the shape of the envelope, and whether it has a visible filament, changes the look of the lit lamp far more than it would behind an opaque shade. A hand switch sits on the cable and turns the light on and off. The manufacturer states that the lamp dims only with a suitable dimmable bulb — the fitting itself has no brightness control. It is intended for indoor use. Glass and finish The glass is mouth-blown, and the manufacturer notes that every piece differs from the others in detail. The vertical cuts run the full height of the shade and break the light along its walls. The base and the lampholder are black metal. In the Velo series the lamp comes in three glass colours — smoke, clear and brown — and three diameters, and the manufacturer expects sizes and colours to be combined side by side.
