VT-8624S is a round surface-mounted ceiling light 35 cm across and 6.1 cm high: a black polypropylene body with a white opal PMMA cover. Inside sit a permanently built-in SMD LED module and a motion sensor, and a remote for setting that sensor is included. The microwave sensor and the remote that sets it The fitting uses a microwave sensor: it picks up movement with a radio wave rather than body heat as a PIR sensor does, so it does not lose someone in thick clothing or in a cold room. The manufacturer gives a detection range of 1–5 m. The remote in the box sets the sensor, not the brightness — the luminaire cannot be dimmed by the remote or by a dimmer in the wiring, so it is either at full output or off. Running on a sensor means far more switching than an ordinary wall switch, which makes the rated endurance worth reading: the manufacturer states over 15,000 on-off cycles. How much light it gives and in what colour The module draws 24 W and delivers 2500 lm, roughly what three old 60 W bulbs gave together — that is room lighting rather than a top-up over one spot. The opal cover spreads the light sideways and downward, with no distinct beam. At 4000 K the colour is neutral white, closer to daylight than to the yellow of a filament lamp. The efficacy of 105 lm/W and the 20,000-hour life belong to the built-in module: it cannot be replaced, and at the end of its life the whole fitting is changed. Light quality according to the EPREL registration Entry EPREL 1657211 gives Ra 80 and an R9 of 10. Ra 80 is enough for general lighting, but an R9 that low means reds — skin tones among them — come out pale under this light. The registry also gives a colour spread of SDCM 6, so two units hung side by side can differ in their white tone, and the flicker measures: Pst LM of 1.0 and SVM of 0.9. They sit inside the requirements but with no margin, and SVM describes exactly the stroboscopic effect on rotating objects. Mounting and operating conditions The fitting mounts on the surface of the ceiling and wires permanently into a terminal block at 230 V, with no plug. IP44 is protection against splashing water from any direction, so the luminaire suits a bathroom outside the direct shower zone, and equally a hallway, a stairwell, a garage or a cellar.
