ORIGAMI MOD163PL-L38B4K1 is a pendant built from three straight black aluminium bars 15 mm wide that cross at the centre on three different levels. The whole thing fits inside a circle 80 cm across. A white milky diffuser strip runs along the underside of each bar — that is what lights, not the black profile you see from above. How much room it takes and how low it hangs The fitting reaches 80 cm in every direction, so over a table it occupies a band of that length. Above a dining table the lower edge of the bars usually sits 70–80 cm above the surface, so the light covers the whole table and does not shine into the eyes of the people sitting at it. The mounting drawing dimensions the assembly at 120 cm from the ceiling to the lowest bar, and the manufacturer gives 35 cm as the minimum suspension height: the drop is shortened on two steel cables coming out of the ceiling rose. The rose itself is 20 cm across and 4.5 cm high, and the fitting weighs 2.75 kg — on a plasterboard ceiling the fixing has to reach the supporting structure. The light it gives The source is a built-in LED module of 46 W and 2300 lm — roughly what three old 60 W bulbs gave, so the level of a room's main light rather than an extra point. The 4000 K colour is neutral, closer to daylight than to the yellow of an incandescent bulb, and the 120° beam spreads the light wide instead of drawing a circle under the fitting. The module sits inside the profiles, so the source is not changed like a bulb; the manufacturer rates its life at 50,000 hours. The fitting is not dimmable, so it does not belong on a circuit with a dimmer. Its colour rendering index of Ra 80 is the ordinary level for general lighting. Build and where it works The profiles are black-painted aluminium with no visible joints except at the central node, where the three bars pass one above the other. That offset makes the fitting read as three separate lines from the side and as a six-armed star from below. The fitting is protection class I, so connecting it needs an earth conductor.
