Cairo is a slim pendant shaped like an elongated four-sided lantern that tapers to a point at the top and the bottom. The steel frame is finished in Urban Bronze - a dark bronze that reads almost black in photographs - and the four faces are filled with clear ribbed glass. The fitting hangs on rigid rods, not on a cable. What height it hangs at The lantern itself is 49.3 cm tall and 13.1 cm across at its widest, and the overall drop from ceiling to bottom point adjusts between 71.1 cm and 173.8 cm. The range is set by the rods in the box: three of 305 mm plus one each of 152 mm and 102 mm, with the length decided by how many are fitted. It is a fixed installation - once assembled, the height does not change without taking the fitting apart again. Over a 75 cm dining table the bottom edge usually wants to sit 70-80 cm above the top. With a 270 cm ceiling that works out at a drop of around 120 cm, in the middle of the available range. The narrow 13 cm body does not block the view across a table, so several can be hung in a row above a table or a kitchen island. What lamp it takes There is a single E27 lampholder rated at a maximum of 60 W. No bulb is supplied and there is no integrated LED, so the lamp is bought separately and can be replaced later. The glass is clear and ribbed - vertically fluted - so it breaks the light into stripes and does not hide the lamp behind it. The shape of the bulb reads through the glass, which is why choosing between a plain envelope and a filament changes how the fitting looks when lit. The manufacturer describes it as compatible with dimmable lamps: dimming is done by the bulb and a dimmer, not by the fitting. Build and connection The frame is steel, the infill glass, and the whole fitting weighs 2.9 kg. It is intended for indoor use only and is wired permanently into a 220-240 V supply; there is no plug. It is class I, so an earth conductor is required - in an older two-core installation that is worth checking before installation.
