ELSA 8268 is a ceiling base from the Mantra Modular Light 220 V system - a rectangular gold metal plate from which seven ELSA-series pendants are hung. Its underside carries seven cable outlets, one per pendant. The plate itself holds no luminaires and no lamps. What is in the box and what you buy with it You are buying the base on its own. The ELSA pendants - glass ball, cup and bell shades on E27 - are separate articles in Mantra's range, described by the manufacturer as the versions without a base. For the arrangement to work you add seven pendants and the lamps for them. How much ceiling it takes up The plate is 94 cm long and 46 cm wide at 2.5 cm thick, so it sits against the ceiling and drops only those two and a half centimetres below it. Compare that with the top it is to hang over - a base this size is meant for a long table or a kitchen island rather than a single light point. Without pendants it weighs 5.29 kg, and considerably more with seven of them, so the fixing has to reach a load-bearing part of the ceiling and not plasterboard alone. The base itself is not height-adjustable - the drop is set by the cable length of each pendant. Supply and connection The base runs on 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz and is a class I fitting, so the installation at the mounting point has to carry a protective earth conductor and the connection is an electrician's job. The manufacturer provides no dimming at base level - any dimming runs through a dimmer and the lamps in the pendants. The body is metal finished in gold and is intended for indoor use.
