GFA901N is a small recessed downlight from Gea Luce with a visible ring 35 mm across. The body and heatsink are aluminium in matt white, and inside sits an integrated CREE LED module. The luminaire is held in the ceiling by springs, so once it is pushed into the opening it needs no further brackets. What opening it needs The manufacturer gives a 30 mm mounting hole and a 35 mm ring, so the flange covers only 2.5 mm around the edge of the hole. The opening therefore has to be cut accurately — an inaccuracy will not hide under the body. The luminaire is 50 mm tall overall, and that much free space has to stay above the opening. Compare that figure with the void you have above the suspended ceiling or inside the coffer at the mounting point. It weighs 0.07 kg, so the springs carry almost nothing. How much light it gives The module draws 3 W and delivers 180 lm in a 30-degree beam. That is well below the old 60 W incandescent at around 800 lm, so a single fitting will not light a room — its job is a point of light aimed at a section of wall, a shelf or a passage. 4000 K is neutral light with neither a yellow nor a blue cast, and colour rendering above Ra 80 is enough for ordinary domestic use. The manufacturer states 30,000 hours for the module. The module is integrated, so it is not changed like a bulb — once it is spent, the whole fitting is replaced. What is in the box and how it is supplied The luminaire runs on 220–240 V mains and the driver is included, but it does not sit inside the body — it lies next to it above the ceiling. The space above the opening therefore has to take both the fitting and a separate driver, which is worth checking before the hole is cut. The fitting is not dimmable and works on/off only, so a dimmer on the wall will change nothing. It belongs to protection class II, meaning double insulation and no earth conductor required.
