Castelle is a Quintiesse outdoor wall lantern in the medium size: a black open frame in cast aluminium holding a cylinder of white, ribbed etched glass. Glass panels of the same texture fill the corners of the frame. The fitting takes one E27 lamp of up to 60 W — no lamp is supplied. How big it is and how it mounts The lantern is 38.3 cm tall and 15.2 cm wide and stands 18 cm off the wall, which makes it a fitting for a full-size façade rather than a narrow balcony: beside a front door, on a gate pier, or either side of a garage. The back plate measures 12.1 × 31.4 cm at 2 cm thick and covers a standard cable outlet. The fitting weighs 2.79 kg — at that weight it is worth choosing fixings to match the substrate, particularly over external insulation. It is protection class I, so the installation needs an earth conductor. How much light Castelle gives You choose the lamp: the E27 socket takes one up to 60 W, and the colour follows the façade — by a front door that usually means 2700–3000 K, a warm light. It can be dimmed, but that needs a dimmable lamp and a dimmer. The glass is etched and ribbed, so it scatters the light instead of showing the bright point of the lamp — close up it does not glare, and it leaves a soft wash on the wall. The open frame does not box the beam in: light leaves sideways, upwards and downwards, lifting the wall above the fitting as well as the steps below it. Build and weather resistance The body is cast in aluminium, which does not rust — the manufacturer gives a three-year anti-corrosion guarantee. An IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern belongs in sheltered outdoor positions: under an eave, in a loggia, or beneath a porch roof.
