Chance is a semi-flush ceiling light with a riveted steel drum shade, closed underneath by a flat disc of etched opal glass with a scalloped, flower-shaped edge. The body is finished in blackened brass — dark brushed metal with a warm cast across the banding. Three curved straps carry the shade from a round ceiling plate. How much room it takes under the ceiling The fitting is 362 mm across and 254 mm in overall height, and mounts close against the ceiling — no drop, and no height adjustment. The manufacturer intends it for rooms with lower ceilings and for high-traffic areas where head clearance has to be kept. It weighs 3.16 kg. The fitting is class I, so an earth conductor has to reach the ceiling box — worth checking before ordering, particularly in older wiring. Which lamps you need to buy The fitting takes two E27 lamps, each up to 60 W. Lamps are not supplied, so you choose colour and brightness yourself — a pair of around 800 lm each gives light comparable to two old 60 W bulbs. The fitting has no control gear of its own: dimming works only once dimmable lamps are fitted and a wall dimmer sits in the circuit. The manufacturer supplies no dimmer. Build Shade and straps are steel, the diffuser etched opal glass — matt, opaque, directing the light downwards. The visible rivets on the bands and the vertical ribs dividing the drum belong to the structure rather than being applied decoration. Chance is for interior use only.
