TOPIC SQ is a recessed ceiling downlight with a square, matt white trim measuring 8.3 cm a side. Inside the trim sits a tilting lamp cradle — once installed, it lets you aim the light in a chosen direction. What the ceiling has to allow The cut-out is round and 7.5 cm across, and 12 cm of clear space is needed above the ceiling for the body of the fitting. Both figures are worth checking before buying: with a shallower void above the board, the fitting simply will not go in. The trim is square while the hole is round, so once fitted the square frame covers the cut edge of the circle — the opening does not have to be perfectly cut. The manufacturer intends it for plasterboard ceilings only. It is not specified for concrete or a timber ceiling, because it is held by springs bearing against the board. Aiming the light The cradle tilts 30° from vertical. That is enough to put the beam on a picture, a worktop or a shelf instead of lighting the floor directly beneath. The angle is set after installation, so the aim can be corrected without pulling the fitting out of the ceiling. Which lamp to buy The fitting takes a GU10 lamp and runs on 230 V with no driver. No lamp is included — the manufacturer gives 8 W as the source rating intended for this fitting and recommends the reflector lamp numbered G11841 for it. Dimming depends entirely on the lamp: the fitting has no electronics of its own, so adjusting brightness needs a lamp described as dimmable and a dimmer on the wall.
