The Groenland M 8708 is a ceiling fan with built-in LED lighting. Three white, curved blades spanning 122 cm come straight out of the flat motor housing, and a round LED panel sits underneath it. The housing is steel, the blades ABS, the whole thing white; the design is by José Ignacio Ballester. How big it is and what room it suits The whole unit stands only 21.5 cm deep and uses no downrod — it hugs the ceiling, so it fits a room of ordinary height where a rod-mounted model would hang too low. Mantra intends it for rooms of 13–20 m², that is an average living room or bedroom. It weighs 4.1 kg. The maker allows mounting under a sloped ceiling, up to 90° of pitch. Its ingress rating confines it to dry interiors. How it cools and how loud it runs A DC motor of 30 W drives it, with eight speeds. At its maximum 215 revolutions per minute the fan moves 150 m³ of air per minute, and the noise level runs between 16.7 and 47.8 dB — quieter than a whisper on the lowest setting, clearly audible on the highest. The blades are reversible and the fan has a summer and a winter mode. In summer the airflow goes downwards and gives a draught you can feel; in winter the direction reverses and the fan mixes the warm air gathered under the ceiling with the cooler air below instead of blowing on the people in the room. What light it gives The LED panel delivers 1700 lm for 24 W drawn. The colour temperature adjusts between 2700 K — warm white, close to an old incandescent bulb — and 5000 K, cool daylight. Brightness is adjustable, and a colour rendering index of Ra 80 is enough for a living room, though not for judging shades at a mirror. A 2.4 GHz radio remote is included and sets fan speed, brightness and colour temperature. The LED module is integrated into the housing; the maker declares 25,000 h of service life and 10,000 switching cycles. Supply and versions The unit connects to a 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz supply and works in protection class I, so the circuit must carry an earth conductor. Mantra gives a five-year warranty.
