The BUTAN 8902 is an outdoor wall light in aluminium finished in white RAL 9010. The body lies horizontally and is pinched at the waist, and the light leaves through two crescent slots — one at the top, one at the bottom — so the fitting washes the wall above and below itself. The same body is offered in dark grey within the BUTAN collection. Size and mounting On the wall the fitting occupies a rectangle of 23 by 10.5 cm and projects 7.3 cm. That last figure is the one that matters here: under eight centimetres lets the light go into a narrow door reveal or right beside the frame, where a lantern with a deep housing would foul the leaf. It weighs 0.5 kg, so the fixing carries very little. The manufacturer rates it protection class I, which means the installation needs an earth conductor. The supply is 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz. What kind of light it gives The source is a built-in 12 W LED module producing 1000 lm. That is a little more than an old 60 W bulb, but the output runs up and down through the two slots rather than straight ahead — the fitting draws two bright bands on the wall and lights the passage beneath it. 3000 K is warm white, and Ra 80 is the usual level for facade luminaires. The fitting is not dimmable, and the LED module cannot be changed — the manufacturer states that outright, so the life of the diode is the life of the whole luminaire. It rates that at 30 000 hours, roughly twenty years at four hours a night, along with 30 000 switching cycles. The second figure counts where the light runs off a motion sensor and switches many times in a night. Operating conditions and build IP65 means full protection against dust and resistance to water jets from any direction, so the fitting can hang on an exposed facade, on a fence or on an unroofed balcony.
