LUMINES INSO is an aluminium LED profile for recessed mounting in ceilings and walls, including plasterboard. This length is 1 m and the surface is lacquered black. The internal channel is designed for three LED strips laid side by side. What opening to prepare The cross-section has four dimensions, each answering a different question. The body — the part that disappears into the opening — is 43 mm wide and 30 mm tall, and that is the size of the groove to prepare. The flange widens the outline to 51 mm and covers the cut edges, so a 51 mm band is what shows from inside the room. Internally the profile measures 40 mm, and the strip channel itself is 31.4 mm at 22.4 mm depth from the flange. The manufacturer provides for two ways of seating it: pressing it into a milled groove, and fixing it with springs between plasterboard sheets. The profile is not drive-over rated, so it must not go into a floor vehicles pass over. How much strip fits and what load it carries The 31.4 mm channel takes three strips side by side, a line of light three times stronger than a single strip in a narrow profile. Measure your strip including its adhesive layer — that is what decides whether three runs sit next to each other. The data sheet states the maximum dissipated power of the LED sources: 61.5 W at a profile temperature of 55 °C and 84.0 W at 65 °C. That is the limit a strip is chosen against — the aluminium carries heat away from the diodes, and exceeding it shortens their life. With three strips per metre the total adds up faster than any one of their ratings suggests. What has to be bought separately The profile is sold bare. The LED strip, the driver, the cover that clips in from above, the end caps that close the run and the connectors — several lengths may be joined into one line — are all separate purchases. The driver can sit inside the profile or outside it; a separate MODI mounting profile exists for concealing it. Without a cover and without sealing the profile is rated IP20, and the manufacturer does not provide for sealing it, so it suits dry interiors only.
