RETO is a flat surface-mounted aluminium profile with a half-round cross-section, here in black anodised finish and a 1 m length. The section measures 54.9 mm wide and only 8 mm high, and the LED strip does not sit directly under the cover — which is why the profile gives an even line of light with no visible LED dots. Where it fits and how it is fixed At 8 mm high the profile needs no routing of the furniture board: it is glued or screwed onto the finished surface, so it can be added to furniture that is already in place. The maker provides for two fixing techniques — double-sided tape and screws. The 54.9 mm width is the figure to compare with the shelf or the cabinet underside it will lie on. RETO lengths cannot be joined into one continuous run, so the length is chosen up front: besides this 1 m piece the profile also comes in 2.02 m and 3 m. Despite the flat shape it is not rated to be driven over or walked on. What goes inside The profile takes two LED strips of up to 10 mm width each, side by side. The maker gives the maximum dissipated power of the LED sources as 23.8 W at a profile temperature of 55 °C and 33.6 W at 65 °C — that is the limit the strip power is chosen against. The driver sits outside the profile, so room for it has to be planned inside the cabinet or the built-in unit. What has to be bought with it The profile is sold bare: cover, end caps, LED strip and driver are separate items. The BASIC cover comes in PMMA and PC as transparent, frosted, milky, opal and black — the more matt it is, the less the diodes show and the less light gets out. Aluminium end caps come with and without a cable hole, and the versions with a 15° and 30° support, right and left, let the profile be tilted instead of aiming the light straight down.
