CAIRO is a vertical wall light with two lamps: an elongated prism of clear ribbed glass, pointed at the top and at the bottom, held in a steel frame with a vintage brass finish. A round backplate sits against the wall and a cross band cuts the body at mid-height. The Cairo collection was designed by the American designer Elisa Carlucci. How big it is and how much wall it takes The fitting is 38.5 cm tall and only 9.5 cm wide — a slim vertical form that fits a narrow strip of wall, beside a mirror or between a door and a corner. It projects 10.5 cm from the wall, more than its own width; that is the figure to check in a tight hallway where people pass close to the wall. The light itself weighs 1.1 kg, 1.58 kg boxed. The backplate is round and covers a standard wiring box. Lamps and dimming There are two E27 sockets, one at each end of the body, so the light goes up and down the wall. The maker allows a maximum of 60 W per socket. No lamps are included — you choose the colour and the brightness yourself, and a decorative wall light is usually given warm light, 2700–3000 K. The fitting is ready for dimming but has no gear of its own: it needs lamps described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit. The ribbed glass breaks the light into vertical bands and does not hide the lamp completely, so the shape of the bulb shows — a clear lamp throws sharper reflections than an opal one. Wiring and where it goes The wall light runs on 220–240 V mains and is protection class I, which means it has to be connected to a protective earth — the circuit must be earthed. The maker intends the fitting for interior use.
