Benno is a two-light wall fitting from the Kichler range, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A straight metal rod crosses a round wall plate with two visible screw heads, and a white opal glass globe sits on a cup at each end. The metal is finished in champagne bronze. How much wall it takes The fitting measures 37.3 cm along the wall and 22.2 cm in height, and stands 16.6 cm out from it. That last figure is the one that matters in tight places: it reaches into the room about as far as a deep shelf, which is worth comparing with the width of the passage beside it. The whole thing weighs 1.32 kg. Which lamps come with it The fitting has two G9 sockets and the lamps are supplied: LED capsules of 3 W giving 300 lm each, 600 lm together. An old 60 W incandescent gave around 800 lm, so Benno lights a particular spot, a mirror area for instance, rather than a whole room. The colour is 3000 K, warm white and close to a classic incandescent. There is no permanently built-in LED module here, so years later only the G9 lamps are changed, not the fitting. Dimming works provided you use lamps marked as dimmable together with a dimmer in the circuit. Bathroom use and wiring IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, which is why the manufacturer lists the fitting for interiors and for the bathroom, outside the direct spray. It is a Class I fitting: the circuit needs an earth conductor, because the lamp is earthed. Supply is 220-240 V at 50 Hz. Build The structure is steel and the globes are cased opal glass, where the white layer is fused into the body of the glass, so the sphere glows evenly and does not show the outline of the lamp.
