ELSA 8273 is a rectangular ceiling base from Mantra that carries seven pendant lights from the ELSA family. The plate measures 94 × 46 cm and stands only 25 mm proud of the ceiling, finished in polished chrome. Its seven cable outlets are spread irregularly across the whole surface, so shades shortened to different drops do not overlap. How big the plate is and how it is fixed The manufacturer's dimension drawing gives an outline of 940 × 460 mm and a height of 25 mm — the base sits flat against the ceiling, with no visible box or canopy. That is the figure to compare with the length of the table or kitchen island the group will hang over: the plate is almost a metre long and sets the width of the whole arrangement. A metal mounting bracket with 600 × 220 mm fixing centres is supplied; it screws to the ceiling and the plate then hangs from it. The base alone weighs 5.29 kg, with the weight of seven shades on top of that, so in a plasterboard ceiling the bracket has to be anchored into the supporting structure. The fitting is protection class I, which means an earth conductor has to be connected. What is included and what to buy separately This listing is the base on its own, with its wiring and bracket. The ELSA pendants are not included — Mantra sells them individually and lists them in its own catalogue as pendants without a base, so the seven shades are bought separately and can be mixed. Bulbs are not included either. The assembly instruction allows seven E27 lamps of no more than 20 W each for this combination, with a bulb up to 60 mm in diameter and 120 mm long — a limit worth checking before buying lamps. Supply is 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz. Construction and series The plate is metal, chromed across its whole surface to a mirror finish, with no ornament and no visible joints.
